Odaily Planet Daily News With the help of the police and cyber authorities, the victim L3yum (@l3yum), who lost 90 ETH encrypted assets due to a hacking attack, has blacklisted the attacker’s USDT address. Therefore, he may be able to recover most of the funds.
On March 16, after hackers managed to obtain its hot wallet seed phrase, 90 ETH worth of crypto assets from L3yum were stolen, including several Yuga Labs-related NFTs, as well as some cryptocurrencies and other NFTs from smaller projects, and then The attackers quickly exchanged or sold the stolen assets.
In an X post on August 11, L3yum emphasized that the hacker’s Ethereum-based USDT address had been blacklisted, stating: “Today, after working with our country’s police and cyber team, I was able to get the USDT address in the USDT address to be blacklisted. Stolen funds are frozen and blacklisted."
At the time of writing, 90 ETH is equivalent to about $166,000, though only $107,306 worth of USDT was in the blacklisted wallet, suggesting victims may not be able to fully recover the stolen funds.
Although it is not 100% sure whether the victims will be compensated, Tether has destroyed the blacklisted USDT and reissued the equivalent amount of assets to original owner.
It’s also worth noting that Tether’s blacklisting of USDT addresses usually follows a court order. (Cointelegraph)
