Odaily Planet Daily News Argentine presidential candidate Javier Milei was in the lead in last Sunday's presidential primary election. He is a libertarian candidate who advocates the abolition of central banks and is a strong supporter of Bitcoin.
With 84% of the votes counted, Milei of the "La Libertad Avanza" (Liberal and Progressive) party received 30.73% of the vote, while the candidates of the "Common Change Party" and the "Fatherland Unity Party" received 28.14% and 26.84% respectively .
Despite his positive stance on cryptocurrencies, Milei is not advocating the use of Bitcoin as legal tender in Argentina (similar to El Salvador). Instead, Milei called for the "dollarization" of the economy, which is currently facing triple-digit inflation.
No candidate is likely to get more than 45 percent of the vote in today's vote, so a general election will be held in October to pick a winner for each party. If no one gets 45% of the vote by then, a final runoff will be held in November. (CoinDesk)
Prior to January news, in a recent interview, Javier Gerardo Milei shared his views on Bitcoin: "What Bitcoin represents is returning money to its original creator: the private sector... Bitcoin has an algorithm , there will be a certain amount one day, and then there will be no more, it can compete with other currencies ... What is the benefit? This is the return of private money, but what is the problem? The problem is that the government will not give up fiat currency."
