Odaily Planet Daily News Hong Kong police launched an anti-money laundering operation this month, arresting 458 people suspected of money laundering and related crimes, involving 470 million Hong Kong dollars. During the operation, the police successfully intercepted more than HK$16 million in proceeds of crime.
The police said that from October last year to June this year, the money laundering group was suspected of laundering up to 110 million Hong Kong dollars in criminal proceeds through cash withdrawals and trading of cryptocurrencies.
In addition, members of a money laundering syndicate invited some of the arrested persons to induce them to hand over their ID cards and take selfies on their mobile phones, and then help them open virtual bank accounts in private. (Letter)
