The Hong Kong government announced the establishment of the Third Generation Internet (Web3.0) Development Task Force. The task force is chaired by the Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, and its members include 15 non-official members from relevant industries, as well as representatives of relevant key government officials and financial regulators. Non-official members will serve for a two-year term commencing July 1, 2023. Members of the task force include the Chairman, Financial Secretary Chen Maobo, and non-official members include Au Weizhi, Chen Norman, Qiu Dagen, Zhu Chengyu, Gu Ronghui, Kong Jianping, Lin Huizhen, Liu Furong, Lin Chen, Lu Zhihong, Pan Shizheng, and Ge Fan. Official members include Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Government Chief Information Officer, Investment Promotion Director, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong Monetary Authority Chief Executive Officer, Securities and Futures Commission Chief Executive Officer, Insurance Authority Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited Group Chief Executive Officer. Financial Secretary Chen Maobo said: "The blockchain technology behind Web3.0 has the characteristics of disintermediation, security, transparency and low cost, and can solve many difficulties and pain points in finance, transactions, business operations and even life.
