According to CoinDesk, Polygon founders and researchers proposed a token upgrade to replace the network’s MATIC token with POL, a move that would allow POL to serve as a single token for all Polygon-based networks, including the main Polygon blockchain, the Polygon zkEVM network and various Supernets. If the proposal is accepted, network validators will be able to support the operation of multiple chains with a single token. Upgrading from MATIC to POL requires a simple send of MATIC to the upgrade smart contract, which will automatically return the same amount of POL. If the community supports the move, token holders will have ample time to upgrade, with four years or more being suggested.
