According to Decrypt, the newly launched NFT gift giving function of OpenSea, an NFT market, will mark the recipient of the gift as a "purchase transaction." JakeandBake, founder of Metaverse HQ, said that this feature has been exploited to make users think that public figures buy certain NFTs, which in turn triggers a market follower effect, causing people to be misled to buy certain NFTs. At present, OpenSea has acknowledged that there is a problem with this function, but emphasized that this problem is not an exploit, but "the result of data misinterpretation." OpenSea added that it appears that third-party wallet trackers are misclassifying these actions as purchases by gift recipients, and that third-party apps and developers should be on the lookout to adjust the way they display transaction data that the target has been contacted. NFT wallet tracker Moby Insights says it has released a fix for OpenSea’s new functionality.
