Odaily Planet Daily News The British Parliament passed a new Internet security bill on Tuesday, which will also apply to the Metaverse. The Online Safety Act requires companies to assess the likelihood that customers will encounter illegal content and the likelihood that children will encounter content that could cause harm to them, and requires companies to take steps to mitigate those risks. As the Metaverse grew, especially after Facebook changed its name to Meta, UK policymakers saw the need to apply the Online Safety Act to the virtual space.
The bill still needs to be approved by King Charles to come into effect. (CoinDesk)
Previously, Stephen Parkinson, the British Minister of Culture, Media and Sport, said that the bill applies to "anything that communicates through Internet services," including objects or avatars created by users and interactions between users in the metaverse.
