Two months before FTX collapsed, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis asked SBF to advise his son on an NFT project, according to an email evidence prosecutors submitted on Tuesday. In response, SBF sent his phone number and said he could be reached by phone or Zoom, internal emails show. This request from the Prime Minister of the Bahamas to the SBF in September 2022 highlights the close relationship between the FTX exchange and Bahamian officials. The Bahamas government has faced criticism for being too lax in regulating cryptocurrency companies, with the Bahamas Securities Commission allowing FTX to operate without a license for more than two years.
