According to people familiar with the matter, Elon Musk has become increasingly frustrated with having to comply with the European Union’s Digital Services Act (DSA) that took effect in August. He has discussed simply unsupporting X (formerly Twitter) in Europe, or blocking Users in the European Union access it. This would be similar to how Meta currently blocks Europeans from using its new app Threads. (Business Insider)
Yesterday, it was reported that the X platform launched the test of a new subscription method "Not a Bot" in New Zealand and the Philippines, aiming to further reduce spam, platform manipulation and robot activities.
New users in New Zealand and the Philippines need to complete mobile verification and select a subscription plan. The subscription fee is US$1 per year (the price varies by country and currency). After subscribing, users can post, like, reply, forward and collect posts on the web side of the platform. New unsubscribed users will only be able to perform "read-only" actions such as reading posts, watching videos, and following accounts. Existing users are not affected during this test.
