Péter Szilágyi, the core developer of Ethereum and the developer of Ethereum client Geth, posted on the , but becomes a feasible way. And this is a very irresponsible idea.
Szilágyi explained that allowing users not to store historical links is a very disingenuous marketing ploy:
- User switches to some other client because it is smaller;
- They can still access the old data because Geth provides the service;
- Users (and Geth developers) know nothing about this.
If balance is considered, they "could" work together on EIP-4444 to "first" help archive historical blocks and "then" all clients could delete it immediately, but they feel it won't have any impact on market share, so Leave the tough problems to Geth to solve, and until then keep YOLO (live in the moment).
Szilágyi said: "Sometimes I really want to quit Ethereum and try to sit on the sidelines. When the core developers are competing for profits, why bother to improve Ethereum? I am deeply disappointed with everyone involved."
