Immunefi’s latest report shows that 292 incidents occurred from January to October 2023, and hacking and fraud activities caused a total loss of more than 1.41 billion US dollars. In October 2023 alone, losses amounted to approximately $22.2 million, mainly due to hacking and fraud. The most commonly attacked blockchain networks during this period were BNB Chain and Ethereum, accounting for 83.3% of the target chain’s total losses. Immunefi revealed that BNB Chain suffered the largest number of single attacks, reaching 11, accounting for 45.8% of the overall losses on the target chain.
On the other hand, 9 incidents occurred on the Ethereum chain, accounting for 37.5% of the total losses. In the Layer1 blockchain, Avalanche had two incidents in October, accounting for 8.3% of the total losses. Polygon and Fantom each had one incident, accounting for 4.2% of the total losses. Hacking incidents remain a leading cause of financial losses. Additionally, DeFi platforms continued to be the main target of attacks in October, accounting for 100% of total losses.
