JPEX Taiwan’s chief partner, Chang Tung-Ying, and a lecturer affiliated with the crypto exchange, Shi Yu, have been detained on suspicion of violations of banking and anti-money laundering laws. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office directed the local justice investigation bureau to probe nine locations, summoning four suspects. One surnamed Liu was released on bail of NT$50,000 ($1,550). While the size and scope of JPEX’s operations in Taiwan remain unclear, more than 10 victims have reportedly filed lawsuits relating to the case. In Hong Kong, authorities have arrested at least 11 people involved in alleged fraud related to JPEX’s local operations.
