According to a newly released report from CoinGecko, the crypto industry’s lobbying expenses in the United States totaled $56.44 million from 2019 to 2023 so far. Over the past five years, approximately 66 companies and 12 organizations (a total of 78 non-individual entities) have lobbied on cryptocurrency-related issues.
During this period, cryptocurrency-related lobbying spending was at its lowest in 2019 and 2020, at $2.99 million and $2.54 million respectively; during the 2021 bull run, cryptocurrency lobbying spending tripled year-on-year to $8.49 million; in 2022 , cryptocurrency lobbying spending hit a record high, reaching $22.23 million, more than doubling year-on-year.
So far, the U.S. cryptocurrency lobby has spent $20.19 million in 2023, excluding spending in the fourth quarter. Therefore, cryptocurrency lobbying spending in 2023 is likely to exceed 2022’s $22.23 million.
Notably, crypto lobbying spending in 2023 has accounted for 19.7% of Wall Street lobbying spending so far, 3.7 percentage points higher than in 2022.
