Belgium plans to accelerate the development of European blockchain infrastructure during its 2024 EU Council Presidency. The project is designed to securely store official documents such as driver’s licenses and title deeds.
Previously, Europe had launched the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure Project (EBSI), which Belgium plans to rename to Europeum and be used for public administration tasks such as verifying driver's licenses.
Belgium’s Secretary of State for Digitalization believes that using public blockchains developed by EU member states is more secure and transparent than private alternatives. Italy, Croatia and other countries have signed the Europeum plan, and the project headquarters will be located in Belgium. (cointelegraph)
