The 2022 annual tax investigation report recently released by the National Tax Agency (NTA) of Japan shows that 615 cryptocurrency-related investigations were launched in fiscal year 2022, and a total of 548 tax violation cases were discovered, a significant increase from the previous fiscal year. In fiscal year 2021, the NTA launched 444 cryptocurrency-related investigations and discovered 405 violations. But the value of cryptocurrency-related tax offenses appears to have declined, possibly due to the decline in global cryptocurrency prices.
The NTA added that the average amount of undeclared income in cryptocurrency-related cases in fiscal year 2022 was approximately $206,000, down from $245,000 in fiscal 2021. The cumulative value of unreported income for fiscal year 2022 is $126.5 million. (Cryptonews)
