U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters asked Valerie Szczepanik, director of the U.S. SEC’s Strategic Center for Innovation and Financial Technology (FinHub), whether to consider holding some special meetings. Waters told a House Financial Services Committee panel on digital issues on Tuesday that he hopes to organize a group of lawmakers to take a deep look at companies operating in the crypto industry and study how they should be regulated.
Waters said: “Some members of Congress are really interested in the role of cryptocurrency in the world, especially in the United States. Will the SEC consider holding some special meetings with members of Congress to discuss possible issues and flaws and provide some information to help Members of Congress should not think they should advance or even make claims in a certain way because they may just not know enough." Szczepanik said lawmakers should contact the SEC. (The Block)
