According to PANews, Kenyan Interior and National Administration Minister Kithure Kindiki has stated that the country has rejected a request from the US government to lift the suspension on the cryptocurrency project Worldcoin. Kindiki informed the parliament that the government will not lift the suspension on Worldcoin activities, which is set to last until August 2023, until the safety and integrity of financial transactions are ensured.
During a speech at the Kenyan National Assembly's Public Petitions Committee, Kindiki revealed that Kenya is facing pressure from the US government to lift the suspension on Worldcoin activities. The minister emphasized that the Kenyan government is particularly concerned about Worldcoin's practice of collecting important identity information, such as iris scans, in exchange for digital identity verification.
