A recent paper titled "The Issuance Problem" written by Ethereum Foundation researcher Mike Neuder supports adjusting token issuance as a solution to some of the problems in today's Ethereum reality. These issues include the viability of maintaining independent staking relative to liquidity staking protocols, and ignoring high levels of staking that harms staking rewards. Neuder advocated for issuance reduction in Ethereum’s next upgrade, “Electra,” but other researchers and developers strongly rejected this stance. Opponents argue that the current push to adjust Ethereum’s issuance curve is an overreaction to unfounded centralization concerns, that the proposal’s goals are unclear, and that the current issuance curve has not resulted in value erosion.
