The official governance page shows that BGD Labs initiated a proposal on Aave v3.1 and Aave Origin. It is reported that Aave v3.1 is a new optional upgrade of Aave V3, focusing mainly on two aspects: redundant security and logic optimization to reduce operating costs. With these principles in mind, the changes/improvements included in this version include virtual accounting, state interest rate strategy, etc. In addition, the current Aave Immunefi bug bounty will apply to v3.1 and will be activated on production instances once approved by governance.
Aave v3.1 follows the same licensing method BUSL 1.1 as all other major contributions of BGD Labs (service provider of Aave DAO). Aave DAO has full power to change this license, whether it is appropriate in the future.
Next, BGD Labs will create an ARFC snapshot for the proposal, which will be used to upgrade all Aave v3 instances to Aave v3.1; at the same time, complete the preparation of the upgraded AIP payload, as well as the security process around it. This AIP will initialize all new components, except for the implementation upgrade itself; after that, the on-chain AIP will be created. In parallel, BGD Labs released the Aave v3 Origin repository based on Foundry. Like v3.1, Aave Origin is a project licensed to the Aave DAO smart contract via BUSL 1.1, which explicitly prohibits any entity competing with Aave from using the codebase for production purposes.
