Several American politicians have asked U.S. President Biden and the hostage affairs unit to try to bring home Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan, who has been detained in Nigeria for more than three months on suspicion of money laundering and tax evasion.
In a letter to U.S. President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken and Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger D. Carstens on June 4, 12 American politicians stressed that Gambaryan is still "wrongly detained" by the Nigerian government and that immediate action must be taken to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. "We are concerned about his life. Immediate action must be taken to ensure his safety and save his life. We must act quickly before it is too late."
The American politicians also said that Gambaryan was not allowed to meet with his legal team without Nigerian officials and armed guards. Before joining Binance, Gambaryan worked for the IRS for ten years. (Cointelegraph)
Previously, Nigerian officials ignored a court order and refused to take Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan to the hospital for malaria treatment.
