ZachXBT: Scammers impersonated a16z investors to carry out attacks, and some people have lost $245,000

ZachXBT posted on the X platform that his fans suffered a social engineering attack by impersonating a16z team members and lost $245,000 after accidentally downloading malware to their computers. It is reported that the scammer claimed to be Peter Lauten, an investor of the a16z team, and sent a message to a project team to ask about potential podcast partnerships. The real Peter Lauten had changed his X (Twitter) Handle from "peter_lauten" to "lauten", but the a16z official website still listed his old Handle, and several posts on the a16z X account also @ed his old username. The victims were unaware of this and were subsequently socially engineered by the imposter to install a fake conference application called "Vortax" on their devices, which was actually malware.
