Indian cryptocurrency trading platform Mudrex recently obtained a court order requiring the Indian Ministry of Communications to shut down 38 websites that used its name to commit fraud. In its August 23 ruling, the Delhi High Court asked the Ministry of Communications to execute it within a week. Mudrex applied to the court after about 15 people reported being defrauded. Mudrex estimates that the actual number of retail investors who were deceived may be as high as 1,000, and the losses may exceed $500,000. Scammers impersonated Mudrex employees on Telegram, luring investors to obtain rewards and job opportunities by performing specific tasks (including writing Google reviews), and illegally collected funds using websites with fake Mudrex names. Mudrex's legal director said this incident preceded the $234 million hack of the WazirX exchange. WazirX lost nearly 45% of customer funds in the July attack and has been seeking a solution since then. (CoinDesk)
