The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pointed out that North Korean cybercriminals are "actively targeting" employees in the Web3 industry to steal crypto funds. It is reported that North Korean criminals have deployed complex social engineering strategies to deceive employees of cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi) companies. Such schemes pose a "persistent threat" to entities holding large amounts of cryptocurrency or related products. The FBI continued: "Over the past few months, North Korean malicious cyber attackers have conducted research on various targets related to cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This research, including pre-operation preparations, indicates that North Korean attackers may conduct malicious network activities against companies related to cryptocurrency ETFs or other cryptocurrency-related financial products."
