The European Union is developing its first “General AI Code of Conduct” for AI models under the AI Act.
According to a September 30 announcement, the initiative, led by the European AI Office, brings together hundreds of global experts from academia, industry, and civil society to draft a framework that will address key issues such as transparency, copyright, risk assessment, and internal governance.
The launch plenary session, held online with nearly 1,000 participants, marked the beginning of a months-long process that will end with a final draft in April 2025. The code of conduct will serve as a cornerstone for applying the AI Act to general AI models such as large language models (LLMs) and AI systems integrated across sectors.
The relevant working groups will meet from October 2024 to April 2025 to draft provisions, collect stakeholder input, and refine the code of conduct through ongoing consultations. (Cointelegraph)
