According to the 2024 Global Game Report: The Competitive Future of Web3 Games, jointly released by Web3 game protocol Elympics, Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA), and blockchain game data tracking platform PlayToEarn, the complexity of using cryptocurrency wallets is one of the main reasons why some players have not tried Web3 games. The report surveyed 1,000 gamers around the world and explored the current status of blockchain games and players' views on Web3 games. The survey results showed that more than 10% of respondents said that complex cryptocurrency wallets were the primary reason they had not tried blockchain games. In addition, 7.3% of respondents said they did not understand the value of Web3 games, and 9.1% of respondents believed that blockchain games lack appeal. When asking players why they play games, airdrops and money-making potential were listed as the main reasons. The opportunity to compete with other players is also a popular reason. Michal Dabrowski, CEO of Elympics, pointed out in the report that Web3 games have always faced challenges in attracting mainstream players. However, he believes that a major shift is coming. "Infrastructure players like TON entering the Web3 gaming space are introducing powerful social distribution networks and highly engaged communities," said Dabrowski, adding that as more developers choose to build in Web3, high-quality games will gain more attention. The report also highlighted the importance of convenience. Although the complexity of crypto wallets may have prevented some players from trying Web3 games, crypto projects like The Open Network (TON) have been working hard to address this adoption barrier. Justin Hyun, investment director of the TON Foundation, previously said that Telegram's Mini Apps will be so convenient that users won't even notice that they are interacting with cryptocurrencies.
