The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) in Ireland has seized Bitcoin seized from a criminal in 2019, but has been unable to access the coins despite their value soaring to $345 million. According to a recent article in The Irish Times, the CAB has been unable to access Bitcoin stored in 12 wallets for the past four years, during which time the price of Bitcoin has risen from about $9,000 to over $62,000 currently. The criminal claimed to have hidden a file containing the Bitcoin wallet seed phrase in a fishing rod box at a rental property, which was lost after his home was burglarized, although cleaning the house after his arrest may have also led to the loss of the file.
