Judge Delays Sentencing of Co-Founder of $8M Crypto Scam IcomTech to Testify

Gustavo Rodriguez, one of the founders of cryptocurrency mining and trading company IcomTech, has been found guilty of wire fraud and will have a few days to prepare testimony and cross-examination before his sentencing in a New York court. During an Oct. 22 hearing in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Rodriguez’s attorney asked Judge Jennifer Rochon to grant an evidentiary hearing, saying he hopes to testify at a trial in March 2024. The court will hear testimony from Rodriguez and one witness on Oct. 25, the judge said. Rodriguez is one of two IcomTech founders — the other being his colleague David Brend — who were charged in the indictment against the project’s founder, David Carmona. Authorities allege IcomTech was a cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme that defrauded users of more than $8 million between 2018 and 2019. Carmona pleaded guilty to wire fraud in December 2023 and was sentenced to ten years in prison in October 2024. (Cointelegraph)
