Trump recently announced the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and appointed William Joseph McGinley as an advisor to the committee.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the heads of the department, have begun sharing details of DOGE's work, promising to equip the committee with "a crack team of small government reformers." DOGE told interested parties on the X account to attach a resume in a private message. According to reports, several Silicon Valley leaders, including investor Marc Andreessen and Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, are involved in the planning of the committee.
The co-heads of DOGE said they want to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget. In 2024, federal spending totaled $6.75 trillion, nine-tenths of which was spent on federal projects.
The two explained how DOGE works in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed. They said they would rely on two Supreme Court rulings to help Trump undo regulation. However, legal experts told CNN that the two misunderstood the Supreme Court case and some of the committee's work may face legal challenges. (Business Insider)
