According to people familiar with the matter, Trump's team is asking the president-elect whether financial industry regulators can be eliminated or merged. When interviewing potential bank regulators, Trump's advisers asked some Department of Government Efficiency personnel whether the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) could be abolished. Trump's advisers also asked potential candidates for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In addition, plans have been proposed to merge or overhaul the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve.
