Elon Musk is hiring for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and Steve Davis, president of Musk's tunnel company Boring Co., and Michael Kratsios, former U.S. chief technology officer, are among the potential candidates being interviewed, according to people familiar with the matter. DOGE has hired about 10 people and is looking for software engineers, including those with experience in artificial intelligence. Currently, DOGE operates out of a glass-walled office in Washington, which is rented by SpaceX, another company owned by Musk, about four blocks from the White House. Musk and Ramaswamy, the other head, are still working to determine the structure of DOGE, but they are considering making it a 501(c)(3), according to some of the people familiar with the matter. One complication is that a 501(c)(3) can be either a public charity (which means it must pass a public support test and have at least a third of its donations come from a wide range of supporters) or a private foundation, which has stricter restrictions. It is not clear who will sign the salaries for DOGE employees or whether Musk or Ramaswamy will invest their own money in the project. But the use of SpaceX's offices suggests Musk, the world's richest man with an estimated $458 billion, is footing at least some of the bill. (Bloomberg)
