Denis Moroz, deputy energy minister of Belarus, said that more cryptocurrency miners are welcome to arrive, and that more and more mining investors are "showing strong interest" in the country.
Moroz said that the government is holding "consultation" meetings with unnamed parties. Crypto mining companies are also analyzing possible locations for setting up new mines in Belarus.
Government officials noted that cryptocurrency miners have consumed 120 megawatts of electricity. Moroz believes that "cryptocurrency mining is a promising industry that has gained new vitality in Belarus."
Moroz added that the Ministry of Energy only wants to cooperate with participants who are "interested in working in the Belarusian energy system for a long time."
It also said that the upcoming crypto miners should also help "create the necessary infrastructure" to help Minsk expand its crypto mining capacity. "We see very big prospects and receive a lot of requests. I think we will see new projects launched in the near future." In addition, the government also intends to provide "incentive tariffs" to attract cryptocurrency miners. (BelTA)
