According to BlockBeats, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently published a blog post reaffirming that Ethereum's primary goal remains unchanged since its inception: to build a global, censorship-resistant, and permissionless blockchain. Over the past decade, Ethereum has developed both technologically and socially, now offering valuable services on a large scale.
Buterin emphasized the need to continue enhancing Ethereum's technological and social attributes, as well as its practical utility. He highlighted a specific area of focus that is crucial for Ethereum users in the short and medium term: Ethereum's scaling strategy.
Currently, Layer 2 (L2) solutions face two main challenges: scalability and heterogeneity. One potential shortcut for scaling is to abandon L2 and perform all operations on Layer 1 (L1) by significantly increasing the gas limit, which could be achieved through multiple shards or a single shard. However, this approach would compromise many of Ethereum's current social structure advantages, which are effective in fostering diverse research, development, and ecosystem-building cultures. Therefore, Buterin advocates for sticking to the original plan of primarily expanding through L2, ensuring that L2 solutions fulfill their intended promises.
Native rollups are still in the early stages of development, requiring substantial active thought, particularly on how to maximize the flexibility of native rollup precompiles.
Buterin concluded by stating that now is the time to double down on efforts. There are still many areas that require active thinking and brainstorming, and the future of Ethereum depends on the active participation of everyone involved.
