EU plans to buy 50 billion euros more of U.S. goods in hopes of resolving trade issues

Odaily Planet Daily News According to the Financial Times, the EU's chief negotiator said that Brussels hopes to increase purchases of US goods by 50 billion euros to solve "problems" in the trade relationship, adding that the EU is making "some progress" in reaching an agreement. However, EU Trade Commissioner Šefčovic said that the EU will not accept the continued 10% tariff imposed by the United States on its goods as a fair solution to trade negotiations. Šefčovic said that since the Trump administration implemented tariffs, the United States and the European Union have made progress through multiple rounds of face-to-face and telephone negotiations. He added that "his goal" remains to reach a "balanced and fair" agreement with the White House. He said the problem could be resolved quickly as the two sides reached an agreement to buy more US natural gas and agricultural products. But he warned that it would be "very difficult" to reach an agreement that "is obviously good and acceptable to our member states and the European Parliament."
