Web3 game studio Roboto Games has completed a $15 million Series A round led by a16z, with participation from Ancient8, Animoca Brands, Gumi Cryptos Capital, Harrison Metal Capital, Makers Fund, Merit Circle, Transcend, and several angel investors. The company’s total funding to date is $19.5 million, including a seed round in 2019. The funds will be used to build the company's second game and hire artists and marketers. Founded by Web2 veterans, Roboto Games is the team behind ZipZapPlay, the maker of 20 social Facebook games, in 2007. Roboto Games, which has released the fast-paced combat game Last Mage Standing, is currently focusing on the development of the massively multiplayer online (MMO) game code-named Foragers and Fighters, and plans to launch the initial playable version of the game in the first quarter of 2023. The company also plans to build a user-generated content (UGC) platform.
