Odaily Planet Daily News New York Mayor Eric Adams announced a number of crypto-friendly initiatives at the Brooklyn Permissionless Conference, including promoting the use of cryptocurrencies to pay for city services, introducing digital asset education in schools, and forming a city council to advocate for policy directions that are favorable to the crypto industry.
Adams criticized former Governor Andrew Cuomo's regulatory policies on the crypto industry as "wrong and misleading" at the meeting, saying that he "dismantled and destroyed the industry" during his tenure. In addition, Adams also stated that he would seek to bypass the resistance of the city comptroller and continue to advance his proposed Bitcoin-backed municipal bond plan. He revealed that the three mayoral salaries he had previously received in the form of Bitcoin have not been sold so far, and he will participate in the mayoral election in November this year as an independent candidate.
