OpenSea tweeted that it will transfer ownership of the Operator Filter Registry, an optional tool for on-chain creator fee enforcement, to a multisig controlled by the Creator Ownership Institute by January 2, 2023. The Research Institute (CORI) is a collaborative project initially created by ZORA, OpenSea, Manifold, Foundation, SuperRare, and Nifty Gateway to fund and create mechanisms for improving creator ownership tools and transparently governing these tools. OpenSea stated that currently the operator filter, an optional tool enforced by creator fees on the chain, is version V1, and V2 will first decentralize the management and governance of the Registry, initially by granting its control to CORI. The mission of CORI is to provide open and transparent governance to the existing Operator Filter Registry and its related rules. In the future, it will also focus on developing mechanisms to improve the execution of creator fees. Additionally, OpenSea is extending the deadline until January 2, 2023 for all new collections on the EVM chain to comply with creator fee enforcement standards.
