Polygon plans to increase transaction capacity by 33% in the fourth quarter, betting on the $2 trillion stablecoin market

Polygon Labs developers plan to increase the network's single-block transaction capacity by 33% in the fourth quarter of this year by raising the block gas limit to preemptively address growing demand in the stablecoin market. Polygon's Vice President of Engineering, Adam Dossa, stated that this move aims to prevent significant blockchain congestion and provide stronger support for stablecoin payments and the transfer of RWAs (such as tokenized US Treasury bonds). Currently, the stablecoin stock on Polygon has exceeded $3 billion, and monthly peer-to-peer stablecoin trading has increased by nearly 40% year-to-date. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent predicts that the market capitalization of US dollar stablecoins will reach $2 trillion in the future, and industry analysts share this optimistic outlook. Polygon's upgrade will increase block capacity from 1,071 transactions to 1,428, and will be accompanied by testing of architectural improvements (such as enabling validators to verify transactions without requiring full state) to reduce the impact on decentralization and hardware costs.
