The Kingdom of Bhutan has announced it will use 10,000 Bitcoins (approximately $875 million) from its Bitcoin reserves to build the Greppu Mindfulness City (GMC). Bhutan currently holds an estimated 11,286 Bitcoins, worth over $986 million, making it the fifth-largest Bitcoin holder globally. This special administrative region in southern Bhutan, launched in 2024, covers approximately 1,544 square miles (about 10% of Bhutan's land area) and aims to attract businesses in finance, technology, and tourism, create high-value jobs, and prevent the brain drain of young talent. The project will be developed in phases over the next 20 years and has already launched its gold-pegged sovereign digital token, TER. (Cointelegraph)
