German Foreign Minister Johann Wadfol expressed optimism that Europe could reach a "compromise" with the United States on the Greenland issue. Speaking after meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Monday, Wadfol said he hoped the US would participate in a new NATO mission in the Arctic to help ensure Greenland's security. "NATO is currently beginning to develop concrete plans that will be discussed with our American partners," Wadfol said. "We haven't reached that stage yet, but all parties are ready to work on this within the NATO framework. Germany will also strive to contribute to this." Wadfol also discussed the ongoing negotiations between the US, Europe, and Ukraine with Rubio. Germany has made it clear that it is willing to support a military mission as part of its security guarantees.
