On 3rd October 2023, Conflux announced that they are developing a blockchain SIM card with LayerZero.

We speak to Dora Jiang, Global BD Lead of Conflux about their recent joint efforts with LayerZero, what inspired this project, and potential use cases for it beyond our conventional ideas.

Conflux is a public blockchain platform that was developed in China by a team of researchers from Tsinghua University.

It claims to be China's only government-approved blockchain, and that it is used in conjunction with the country's Blockchain Service Network (BSN), China's blockchain-tech platform for enterprise use.

Introduce Conflux to our Coinlive readers – what sort of blockchain platform are you?

Conflux is a permissionless Layer 1 blockchain that connects decentralized economies across borders and protocols.

It aims to offer a fast, secure, and scalable blockchain environment with their recently migrated hybrid PoW/PoS consensus, ensuring smooth operations, minimal fees, and enhanced network security.

As the sole regulatory-compliant public blockchain in China, Conflux presents a distinct advantage for projects venturing into Asia.

Collaborations with renowned global brands and government entities in the region, such as the city of Shanghai, McDonald’s China, and Oreo, further solidify Conflux’s position.

Conflux and LayerZero recently joined forces to develop a Blockchain-based SIM (BSIM) card. What problem does this aim to solve?

We recognise the need for secure, mobile, cross-chain interactions for future BSIM users in the growing blockchain environment, which is starkly lacking in this space.

That is how we came up with the BSIM card to manage and store the user's public and private keys in the card, and carry out digital signatures in a way that the private key does not exit the card.

With the Chinese government’s increased focus on the Digital Yuan, will this blockchain SIM card have related usage in future?

Aligning with the government’s digital initiatives, the BSIM card could potentially interact with the Digital Yuan with the right integrations.

What is LayerZero’s role in this collaboration?

With the new collaboration in place, BSIM cardholders can now tap into LayerZero’s omnichain messaging platform.

The platform aims to empower them to seamlessly transfer their assets and data across a multitude of blockchains, spearheaded by the Conflux mainnet.

The innovation doesn’t stop at security.

As mobile devices morph into omnichain wallets (courtesy of this integration), users will find themselves at the threshold of the rapidly expanding universe of DeFi, NFTs and gaming.

This paves the way for future prospects where users might want to exchange assets or shuffle NFTs between various LayerZero-linked chains.

We wish to see a more interconnected and user-friendly crypto space, promoting innovation and broader adoption of blockchain technologies, thus leading to true mass adoption.
