zkSync is a ZK (zero knowledge) rollup solving Ethereum’s scalability with zero security compromises. It aims to be a trustless protocol for scalable low-cost transactions and is the only zkRollup protocol that supports EVM smart contracts. zkSync was founded by Matter Labs in 2019.
The co-founder of Matter Labs, Alex Gluchowski, was a Plasma researcher at Ethereum Foundation in the early days, looking at early scaling solutions for Ethereum. Both Matter Labs, and zkSync have received sizeable investments from well-known VCs including a16z and Dragonfly.
Obtain testnet coins
1. Go to https://portal.zksync.io/bridge to enter the test network of zkSync 2.0 and connect your metamask or other supported crypto wallets.
2. Next, to obtain testnet coins, go under the Faucet tab, and click on request funds from the faucet. A request to publish a zkSync Twitter post will appear. Simply post the tweet and wait for the testnet coins to arrive. Note: Your Twitter profile needs to have an avatar and cannot be a newly registered account.
3. An alternative way to obtain testnet coins if step 2 does not work. Head to their official Discord channel (https://discord.com/invite/px2aR7w), verify and under the goerli-eth-faucet tab, enter /faucet address: + your wallet address.
The discord bot will reply to your message and send testnet coins shortly.

Interact with zkSync cross-chain bridge
Note: You need to have the Goerli test network in your metamask or similar wallet. To add the network, here is a simple tutorial (https://blog.cryptostars.is/goerli-g%C3%B6rli-testnet-network-to-metamask-and-receiving-test-ethereum-in-less-than-2-min-de13e6fe5677). Simply, add a network to Metamask under the dropdown -> go to advanced tab -> turn “Switch Test Networks” to “ON”. You will find Goerli Test Network in the drop down list.
1. After receiving your testnet coins, click the Bridge tab and under “DEPOSIT”, deposit some Eth Goerli tokens to bridge to zkSync Goerli tokens.
Confirm the transaction in the metamask wallet popup.
2. After depositing Ethereum Goerli to the zkSync network, head to the WITHDRAW tab on the same bridge page and withdraw back the ETH from zkSync Goerli back to ETHereum Goerli.
The above steps complete the zkSync cross-chain bridge interaction.
