As the next luxury car brand to dive into the growing NFT space, Bentley will unveil 208 NFT pieces uniquely designed by Bentley Design.
The British company noted that the number 208 was chosen because of its importance to the company. According to Bentley, the number 208 represents both the top speed of its fastest Grand Tourer (Continental GT Speed) and the entire production run of the iconic R-Type Continental from 1952 – the car that inspired the modern Bentley Design DNA.
Bentley pointed out that the launch of NFT is the first step for Bentley to embrace and integrate the Web3.0 experience more widely for all customers around the world, and will explore other digital platforms in the future, including NFC (non-homogeneous chips), online games, metaverse applications , and the use of blockchain technology.
"Bentley's customers enjoy shopping online, purchasing luxury goods with digital currencies, and building businesses in the Metaverse," said Alain Favey, member of the sales and marketing committee, in comments. "We've always let our customers explore their passions, and today , which means we offer digital marketplaces and NFT assets to our clients. We’ve seen how NFTs can elevate the profile of art and artists, and we believe the same will happen in luxury cars.”
Bentley's NFT will be built on the Polygon network, because the carbon neutrality of the Polygon network is consistent with Bentley's goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2030. Bentley said that NFT will be officially launched in September and will grant holders exclusive permissions and benefits.
In January, Italian luxury car brand Lamborghini also launched its own NFT. As Bentley is about to launch the NFT series, more mainstream automakers will embrace this new field in the future.
