Linea Unveils Ethereum Rollup Solution with ERC-20 Token Bridge

Linea, a recently launched zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) rollup solution, has successfully initiated its mainnet launch by introducing an ERC-20 token bridge.

This development enables third-party bridges to connect with the network, paving the way for the integration of new decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.

Over the upcoming fortnight, users of MetaMask's Buy crypto aggregator will be exempt from network fees for onboarding USDC.e.

This wrapped version of Circle's dollar-backed stablecoin has been transitioned from the Ethereum mainnet to rollups like Linea and Arbitrum.

Linea stands among numerous rollups currently operational on the Ethereum blockchain.

Having commenced its operations in July, the network reports over 150 deployed dApps, attracting more than 100,000 weekly active users.

What is a Blockchain Rollup?

A "rollup solution" in blockchain is a technique used to improve the efficiency of transactions on a blockchain network like Ethereum.

This is very similar to how a person might gather up a bunch of smaller tasks and complete them all at once to save time.

In Linea's case, their zkEVM rollup is a specific type of rollup that uses advanced cryptography to make transactions faster and cheaper compared to the main Ethereum network.

Rapid Growth

In the past month, the platform has facilitated around $2.7 million in transactions, while its total value locked (TVL) stands at $31 million, constituting approximately 0.3% of Ethereum layer-2s' collective market share.

Functioning in a manner akin to Ethereum, Linea's layer-2 network is distinguished by its ability to process transactions at higher speeds and reduced costs.

Linea's team is currently actively developing a novel prover technology named Vortex, employing a distinctive two-step mechanism that employs both inner and outer proofs.

According to a representative, the inner proof is generated swiftly using lattice-based cryptography. It is then iteratively compressed through self-recursion until it reaches a manageable size, after which it is enveloped within an outer proof and settled on the Ethereum blockchain.

This approach allows Linea to produce proofs rapidly and cost-effectively.

Furthermore, Linea is exploring the utilization of besu as its execution client, aiming to decentralize its network nodes.

With besu being a tried-and-tested Ethereum execution client, the integration of this software into Linea's system is anticipated to enhance the platform's reliability.
