The digital economy is an exciting, fast-growing area that needs to be explored. With the world of business constantly changing and evolving, it’s crucial to keep up with the changes in technology. Digital entrepreneurs have to learn diverse skills and seek mentorship from successful people in that space. However, most schools and colleges do not offer courses that teach these necessary skills, leaving students unequipped and ill-prepared to face risks. These students must be educated about what they’re getting into before jumping headfirst into any endeavor, and that’s what Lucas Lee-Tyson does.
Lucas is a self-made millionaire and digital entrepreneur who has seen firsthand the need for improved financial education in this day and age. Though Lucas discovered the digital marketing space at 15, he didn’t have anyone to turn to as a mentor. Years later, as a broke college student looking for alternatives to his unexciting 9–5 job, Lucas embarked on an arduous journey and learned lessons no college professor could ever teach him.
Gradually, he scaled his business to over six figures and built a team. Three years later, Lucas changed his business model to cater to the demand for better financial education in the current economy. He now spends his days teaching, mentoring, and equipping thousands of students with the skills they need to succeed, using his own mistakes and failures to show them the way. Lucas’ goal is to democratize financial education for everyone and help thousands build real wealth that offers freedom and convenience.
The first lesson Lucas shares with his students is that, just like in other types of business, digital entrepreneurship can be an incredibly lonely journey. In the beginning, many of Lucas’ friends and family members didn’t see how he could make a career out of digital marketing. Some even told him he was wasting his time on scams, but he didn’t listen to them. From that process, Lucas learned the importance of sometimes ignoring even well-meaning people’s opinions if you truly feel aligned with your passion.
Another lesson Lucas teaches his students is the value of actual, live customer feedback. When Lucas began his digital marketing business, he was still a student living in a dorm room. After three months of non-stop work on his online business, Lucas was confident it would explode immediately after launching, allowing him to quit his full-time job. Unfortunately, that didn’t go as planned, and Lucas had to go back to the drawing board to work on customer feedback. Things changed for the better after that.
Selling people what they want and giving them what they need is the other lesson Lucas teaches his students. “The best businesses on earth are not ones that ‘create’ demand with their advertising or marketing but instead channel EXISTING demand into a product that people did not know yet existed,” he says. For him, that means sometimes blocking his emotions and judgments and focusing solely on what the people desperately want. This approach always works.
Lucas says a change in mindset and daily improvement are also important pillars of success. He observes that the wealthy do not get ahead by constantly hustling and grinding but by building a machine that they improve every single day. That machine allows them to generate income regardless of their working hours, freeing up time they can spend with their loved ones doing things they love. Lucas’s goal is to coach and help more people get there.
