More than a quarter of Australian crypto users surveyed in October planned to include digital assets as part of their Christmas presents this festive season.
Crypto.com, a provider of crypto wallets and services, conducted a survey of 2020 Australians aged 18-59. Of the respondents who have used cryptocurrency in the past 12 months, 26% said they would consider giving some cryptocurrency at Christmas, or buying a cryptocurrency-related gift.
More than half (53%) of those planning to buy crypto gifts said they would consider purchasing crypto assets, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, for their loved ones this Christmas.
The survey also found that crypto merchandise, such as themed socks or hoodies, is likely to be a popular gift this year’s holiday season, with 43 percent of people planning to buy crypto-centric gifts saying they’re looking for them.
About 42% said they were considering buying currency certificates, and 35% were considering buying encrypted books. About a third of respondents said they were considering gifting non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Justin El-Sheikh, an 18-year-old high school graduate from Melbourne, plans to give cryptocurrencies as a gift this year. He told Cointelegraph that he plans to set up a wallet for his friends and put a small amount of bitcoin in it for them to learn how to use.
“A lot of my friends have heard about cryptocurrencies and said they want to get involved but don’t know how to get started. This is a fun and thoughtful gift idea,” he said.

A September survey of 1,000 respondents by Finder found that one in six Australians now own cryptocurrencies, with assets worth a combined $8 billion. About 9 percent of Australians surveyed own bitcoin, 8 percent own ethereum, and 5 percent own dogecoin.
