Paolo Ardoino, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Tether, has found himself drawn into the fray of addressing a web of speculations that have been swirling around images of sizeable industrial containers circulating online. It started from a photograph he had unveiled on 24 August.
Within this captivating image, a container bearing a skillfully crafted Tether Energy logo was showcased, generating a wave of curiosity and contemplation amongst a diverse spectrum of individuals.
Setting the Record Straight
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter)two days after, Paolo embarked on a mission to unravel the mystery behind the photograph.
Amidst the influx of enquiries, Paolo embarked on a mission to dispel ambiguity surrounding the enigmatic image. He provided a comprehensive clarification, unveiling that the image in question offers a sneak peek into a control room situated within one of Tether's forthcoming Bitcoin mining facilities, poised for imminent operation.
While his intention was to offer insight, he took a steadfast stance on withholding precise location details — a decision born out of paramount security considerations. In response to the persistent curiosity of numerous users, he acknowledged that the mining site resides somewhere within the expansive contours of South America. However, adhering to a security-centric approach, he refrained from divulging further specific, “Where? In LATAM. We tend to not share exact locations to avoid personnel harassment, a valid concern given the amount of detractors obsessed with Tether.”
Addressing sceptics who pondered over the Tether Energy logo adorning the containers, Paolo laid bare the rationale behind this choice. As he articulated, the deliberate inclusion of the logo was a strategic media move, conceived with the expectation that the image might resonate across news platforms. This calculated branding decision reflects the conscientious approach of the team. However, he was unequivocal in his belief that exhibiting logos at the actual mining sites would prove unwise in light of security concerns.
With the stage set, Paolo’s foresight turns to the near horizon. He anticipates the initiation of operations to transpire in the forthcoming month of September.
