Earlier this year, gaming giant Ubisoft joined the aleph.im network as its core channel node operator after the blockchain storage and computing startup became part of Ubisoft’s Entrepreneurs Lab . On Tuesday, aleph.im announced that to further integrate non-fungible tokens (NFTs) into Ubisoft’s triple-A titles, it will provide Ubisoft Quartz with a decentralized storage solution.
Players will be able to earn dynamic NFTs called Digits on Quartz, which will be used in Ubisoft's Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Breakpoint game. Players can use Digits in the game, and they can also sell them on the Rarible and Objkt marketplaces for others to buy. The metadata and history of props will be public.
Aleph.im's technology allows players to see the names and achievements of previous item owners, as well as item descriptions and videos. Advantages of the Aleph.im system include securely storing NFT metadata on a fully decentralized storage network of over 70 nodes, allowing all NFT ownership to be tracked on the Tezos blockchain.
Ubisoft and aleph.im claim they are working together to challenge traditional static NFTs and enable the creation of dynamic NFTs using metadata that constantly changes as they are transferred between players.
Didier Genevois, director of blockchain technology at Ubisoft, said players need to actually own their Digits to realize the promise of the technology. "The role of Aleph.im is key to building this experiment, allowing us to decentralize the storage of Digits video assets and metadata," he said.
Cointelegraph previously reported that Ubisoft faced backlash when it first announced its foray into NFTs. The Ghost Reckon community isn't too happy about what they see as a "money grab". Ubisoft responded by moving to dynamic NFTs with the help of aleph.im to assuage the concerns of its players.
