Understanding the Metaverse Conference Successfully Held in Singapore

A few days ago, “Understanding the Metaverse: Law, Policy & Practices” conference was successfully held at the National University of Singapore Shaw Foundation Alumni House. More than 200 business leaders, law practitioners, academics and policymakers from Singapore, China and Hong Kong gathered to discuss and share perspectives on data, information and intellectual property protection in the metaverse. The conference is the first of its kind in Singapore to focus on the relevance and application of existing law and policies on matters concerning privacy in the metaverse space.

Dr. Yu Jianing, Co-Chairman of the Blockchain Special Committee of China Communications Industry Association, Executive Director of the Metaverse Industry Committee of China Mobile Communications Federation, and President of Fire University Education, who published "The Core of the Metaverse: Web3.0 Opens a Beautiful Digital New World", shared with the audience the core of the metaverse and the prospect of Web3.0 opening up a new digital world.

Professor Chen Bohui, Dean of the Asia Blockchain Industry Institute, delivered a speech full of humanistic feelings "You and I are all mortals, sentient beings in the Metaverse". Taking Chuang Tzu Mengdie as an example, Chen Bohui pointed out that the current human exploration in the Metaverse is divided into two parts. There are two kinds, one is the physical exploration of the outward "physical departure", and the other is the spiritual exploration of the inward "spiritual departure". Chen Bohui said that the Metaverse is the inevitable product of the development of human science and technology to a certain stage, the technological revolution has entered a new stage, and the human development is facing a major transformation. What the metaverse presents to us is not merely technological progress, but infinitely closer to a new form of human civilisation. This kind of civilization is very complex, including not only the new Internet industrial civilisation that points to physical technology, but also the spiritual civilisation that points to the new cultural form of virtual spirit.

Visiting Professor of National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, Co-founder of Lee & Pei Finance Institute, Dr Pei Sai Fan focused on "Digital Finance Development and International Cooperation in Singapore". Dr Pei said that Singapore is a small "red dot" in the geographical world, but it is an important "global node" in the digital world. Many countries in the world have built a high wall of protectionism, and Singapore has built a bridge for multilateral cooperation.

At the roundtable forum, Dr Yu Jianing, Dr Pei Sai Fan , and President Tang Yi from the Hong Kong Blockchain Association shared their respective policies, measures, development status, and competition in digital economy development in Beijing, Singapore and Hong Kong which includes advantages, mutual exchange of experience, and exchange of information. All three guests said that whether it is Mainland China, Hong Kong or Singapore, they will all benefit from the development of the Metaverse and the digital economy. The borderless nature of the Metaverse allows Singapore to open up territory in the virtual world, overcome the limitations of population and land size, not only truly change the way of life, but also change the economic industry model and create leap-forward growth.

This conference was held by the Asia Blockchain Industry Institute. Professor Chen Bohui said that the Asia Blockchain Industry Institute will cooperate with all parties, combining academic, regulatory and technical topics, to hold the "Towards the Future, Yuan Dynasty". The "Cosmos Series" event hopes to explore the future development trend of the Metaverse from the perspective of technology, economy, and society.
