Jet Li Mocked for Becoming a Singapore Citizen
Beijing-born action legend Jet Li may have stepped back from the big screen in recent years, but he’s been keeping busy connecting with fans online.
The *Once Upon A Time In China* star, now 62, joined the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu last month and has been actively sharing updates. In a candid post, Li revealed that he frequently receives jibes from netizens over his decision to become a Singapore citizen in 2009.
Li, who previously held U.S. citizenship, owns property in Singapore, where he and wife Nina Li Chi raised their two daughters, Jane, 25, and Jada, 22.
“Some people will mock you no matter what you do – ‘Oh, the Singapore actor is back,’ or ‘Trying to ride the wave again.’ It’s very normal. They just enjoy doing it,” Li said, adding that he remains unfazed by the remarks.
In good humor, he admitted: “There are three people at home who aren’t my fans – including my two younger daughters. They hear me talk nonsense all the time, so there’s no way they’d follow me on social media. Totally normal.”
Li also has two older daughters, Si Li and Taimi Li, from his first marriage to former actress Huang Qiuyan.
