On November 28th, at the AWS annual technical conference re:Invent 2023, Amazon announced the launch of 'Amazon Q', an artificial intelligence assistant designed specifically for business purposes.

This AI chatbot can engage in conversations, problem-solving, content generation, and insight retrieval, linking with Amazon's knowledge base, code, data, and enterprise systems.

However, it is currently only available in preview mode in Oregon and northern Virginia in the United States. It is divided into a Business version at US$20 per month and a Builder version specifically designed for developers at US$25 per month.

What's Different?

The biggest difference between ChatGPT and Bard is that Amazon's chatbot targets corporate clients. The official claim is that it can learn your company's data within a secure environment, enabling Q to interpret ongoing projects, meeting records, and other information, becoming your exclusive 'business expert' at work.

The Database

Amazon Q can be tailored to your business by connecting it to company data, information, and systems, made simple with more than 40 built-in connectors.

Adam Selipsky, the CEO of AWS, during an interview with CNBC on November 28th, answered,

"Amazon Q provides employees with immediate, relevant information and advice to simplify tasks, accelerate decision-making and problem-solving, and help inspire creativity and innovation at work."

The Security

Amazon Q respects and utilises your current identities, roles, and permissions to tailor its engagements. If a user lacks access permission for specific data without Amazon Q, they won't gain access through Amazon Q either.
